They were happy with their current website design, but needed the ability to update and edit the the website themselves. The site allows users to upload their research interests and to receive automatic emails when an item matching their requirements is uploaded by the user. Features include Image uploading, custom integration with Paypal, an internal messaging system, user comments, social media integration, search engine optimisation and custom code to generate affiliate revenue from highly relevant links to other genealogy sites.

The website has been built entirely from scratch using the Ruby on Rails programming framework, which enabled us to quickly prototype the site for the benefit of the client who hadn’t fully determined the site requirements. The client, an individual, has a very tight budget, and we have been able to stage the work as the clients budget allowed. At very little cost, we have been able to add on a blog using off-the-shelf software with some custom hooks. This is an interesting and ongoing project for Watch the Dot.
