The James Whale Fund for Kidney Cancer came to us needing a members forum for the discussion of issues relating to Kidney Cancer and for the imparting of news relating to the charities work.
In addition, they wanted to integrate a new Ask a Nurse feature, where members of the public who had been recently diagnosed with Kidney Cancer could obtain quick and confidential advice from the fund’s panel of Oncology Nurses.
As a charity, it was of uptmost importance that this was done within a very tight budget. As well as writing a custom theme for PhpBB, an Open Source and free-to-use forum software package, we were able to adapt an open source ticketing system – typically used by technical support centres – to provide a cost effective Internal messaging system for use by the nurses. In addition, we provided a custom front end to allow the user to interactact with the messaging system.
We continue to work closely with The James Whale Fund to provide cost effective web and technical support around their entire online operation.
